Antioxidants vs. Inflammation

Some may ask does it really matter which fruits we eat? As long as we eat lots of them right?

Well actually it should matter, some fruits are way higher in antioxidants and berries are at the top. These fruits like berries that are high in antioxidants, help reduce inflammation levels in the body. A study done between 2 groups, had them eat the same amount of fruits and veggies, the group given a low antioxidant diet eating like lettuce and bananas saw a 40% increase in inflammation levels in the body. The 2nd group given the high antioxidant diet eating berries and citrus had their levels of inflammation in the body drop significantly.

It's not just the quantity that counts, but also the quality. The berries with the highest antioxidant power are strawberries, cranberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries. Eating a serving of any of these berries or a combination a day is ideal for the Wellth of the body. The berry with the highest level of antioxidant power is blackberries. These are highly accessible in grocery stores such as Whole Foods, and Earth Fare. Frozen berries are also great because they last longer, while also still maintaining most of their nutrients. Frozen fruit is a great way to keep berries on hand that may not be in season yet or out of season.

Make your fruit count!
